Heartaches

A triple-threat sleeper, one part murder mystery, one part swing musical, and one part Hollywood satire along the lines of Singin’ in the Rain. It opens with a little travelogue of Hollywood (featuring exteriors of Eagle-Lion Studios, Earl Carroll’s Vanities, etc.), and goes right through the publicity machine to simple fact. Charming swing tunes (including the familiar title number), a lot of funny material, and especially fine performances by Ken Farrell as the croaking crooner, Frank Orth as his agent, James Seay as Lt. Armstrong, and Chill Wills as the crooner’s confidant, Breezy Mann.
