The Night of the Diva
The
Wild Wild West
A great soprano has lost her beautiful voice in a hotel fire,
she dwells under the New Orleans Civic Opera House with later sopranos,
suspended in bird cages, who have dared to present themselves in her last
starring role, Lucia di Lammermoor, and there she
trains them (cf. Julian’s The Phantom of the Opera).
A visiting Italian soprano receives protection from the Secret
Service on this tour, her memorable entry into New Orleans, where she vituperates
the unsatisfactory manners of every American male but takes Gordon for a
fastidious Hungarian count, is by train across a wide view of the city center.
