ho-ho-ho

there are lessons you are taught
and lessons you learn

now banging your head against a wall
is a lesson you learn
if someone does it for you
well that’s taught

and taught it is daily
here and there let’s say
was and is

what you learn as taught
or teach as learned
counts for something
on my fingers says the poet say
counting his numbers
one two three and a margin for error
that little something that counts for rhythm
that beats or keeps time
modulates the wonder of it all

how can you imagine my
dilemma says the poet locked in here
with a verse rhyming dictionary
and a tablet and all

so I peddle my papers
my histories and textbooks
down the line

all down the river
I ran
like reaching the sun and stars
I scan

marvelously well if I can think about that
thank you

so it goes I wonder about all
these things

what if I ask you about something else
for the nonce?

come on you know perhaps

here’s a glass of new wine say
green tea or vodka
drink it down have it all
why don’t I ask you?

there

I don’t know it all
it’s a half-formulated thought
let me put it to you
thus

and thus

and thus

and so

so

I’ve enjoyed this visit
