Joshua 2-3

Joshua son of Nun sent two spies from Shittim ordered to
reconnoiter the land and Jericho where they spent the
night with a whore named Rahab

Jericho’s king heard of Israelite spies

and ordered Rahab to turn the spies over

but she hid them and said I didn’t know who they were

and they left just before curfew who knows whither chase
them

they were on her roof among her flax

so the king’s men chased them all the way to Jordan

and the gate was shut behind them

before they slept she went up to the roof

and said I know this land is yours we fear you all

for God parted the Red Sea when you left Egypt and you
killed the two kings of the Amorites other side Jordan
Sihon and Og

we were undone by this when we heard it God is God
everywhere

now I have saved you swear by God to spare mine swear to
me

my kindred and theirs shall live

they said Ours for yours keep this secret and you will live
when this land is ours by God

she lowered them a rope through a window on the wall of the
city

she said Head for the hills and wait three days till they are
back

they said We swear not

save you tie this scarlet cord in your window and keep yours
in

if they leave they die but in here they are safe

tell aught of this we swear not and they left she tied the scarlet
cord

they headed for the hills three days till all pursuit ended

they came down from the hills crossed over to Joshua son of
Nun and reported

they said God has given us this land all fear us

in the morning Joshua left Shittim with the Israelites for camp
at Jordan

three days went by the people were ordered See the ark of
God’s covenant the Levites bear follow it

there you shall go at two thousand cubits’ distance

Joshua said Be holy tomorrow God will work

Joshua said Take up the ark before the people and they did

God said Today I raise you before Israel with you as with
Moses

order the Levites to stand in Jordan

Joshua said Hear God

Joshua said God will drive out Canaanite Hittite Hivite
Perizzite Girgashite Amorite Jebusite

the ark of God’s covenant goes into Jordan

one from each tribe

the Levites’ feet who bear the ark of God’s covenant shall
touch Jordan

Jordan shall cease in a stand

out from tents the people and the Levites bearing the ark of
God’s covenant before

Jordan swells in autumn when the feet of the Levites bearing
the ark touched water

Jordan ceased in a stand at Adam by Zaretan and from the
Dead Sea and the people crossed at Jericho

Israel crossed dryshod and the Levites who bear the ark of
God’s covenant stood dryshod in Jordan till all the people
crossed Jordan
