The Fast and the Furious

A streamlined analytical American adaptation of The Thirty-Nine Steps, in which a man escapes from prison and finds himself in a gymkhana. John Ireland gives a superb performance on the nervous edge of hilarity, and so does Dorothy Malone. The unmistakable theme of “internal exile” given a peculiar clarity by a modicum of violence is what makes this a great picture.
