The Mountain of the Cannibal God

Cesare Frugoni later worked on the screenplay of Tonino Cervi’s L’Avaro for Alberto Sordi.

The main motifs here, preparatory to the final orgy (from Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron) in the mountain caves of an island off New Guinea, are Hawks’ Scarface (brother and sister, he half-mad, seeking her explorer husband) and Boorman’s Deliverance on the river.

The mountain is rich in uranium, the explorer a long-dead god, the cannibals belong to a tribe thought extinct.

Time Out Film Guide’s childish review is par for the course.
