The Phantom Tollbooth
The main division of the book in this animated musical provides a
better critical model than those conspicuously favored by certain academics,
and is not wanting in thoroughness. The lower stages of mental activity are
characterized by literary pettifogging and numerical chicanery, in the nature
of a quest these are arduously realized as sweet reason and pure rhyme,
princesses of the realm.
The terrible Dynne is an example of the noteworthy
accomplishment in the animation, a swirling cloud of finger paint.
The live action sequences fore and aft, credited to Dave Monahan, have
something of the function assigned by Eames to such usage.
