White Zombie

The voodoo premise is quickly seen as an evocation of the slave trade, black or white, but returns to confabulate the imagemaker as wielder of power. Furie, Romero, Wood and Kenton all have sources or precedents in this film, which is in some ways an immediate response to Dreyer’s Vampyr.
