Hitler—Dead or Alive
The point,
carefully made and unmistakable, is that killing Hitler is by no means the object
but might improve Germany’s chances in the war, even.
Bosley Crowther
of the New York Times nevertheless contrived to miss it altogether.
A brilliant,
conscientious little masterpiece on three Yanks who go to Germany to do the
job, a beer baron and two of his hoods out of Alcatraz (“income tax evasion”)
for a million dollar reward, they’ve rubbed out rival gangsters before, and
they do it again, not before shaving Schicklgruber’s upper lip.
“Munich,” says
he, “birthplace of the Turd Reich.”
