Flor de mayo
Jack Palance and
Paul Stewart return the favor done to Hollywood over the years by actors such
as Pedro Armendariz and Emilio Fernandez, and Palance especially gives a fine bravura
performance (in Spanish) as a shrimp fisherman (and skipper of the Cucamonga).
Maria Felix delivers her dialogue with machine-gun rapidity in stunning gowns,
and Armendariz is excellent in an unusual part.
Amazingly
beautiful color cinematography by Gabriel Figueroa in a number of difficult
situations rises to the level of Dali, in a subtle film from the author of Four
Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Blood and Sand.
