The Rock
A spectacular
film with a Surrealist outlook centered on a happy location that permits an
instructive picture of citizens behind bars and the city menaced by a general
with nerve gas and mercenaries.
The famous chase
sequence depicts “the sense of confinement, the getaway, the vicissitudes
of the road, the wan bliss on the rim” (Beckett), proceeding from Bullitt
and by dogged degrees attaining such a vision of the San Francisco street as
can be found in D.O.A., before demolishing a Ferrari with a cable car.
Dim prehistory is
connoted by the Hoover file on JFK & Roswell, secreted in the “hollow
leg” of a pew in Iowa.
